Ex-top cop Bill Bowes passes on

Former Police Commissioner Wilbert 'Bill' Bowes, who served the Jamaica Constabulary Force between 1980 and 1982, died last Friday at the University Hospital of the West Indies, according to the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN).

Bowes, 82, was Jamaica's 19th police chief.

He enlisted on August 16, 1943. The veteran of 39 years received his first promotion eight years after enlistment.

He continued to rise through the ranks, being promoted 10 more times before becoming the commissioner. During his tenure, he served at the Training and Operations branches, Mobile Reserve and the Kingston Western and Patrol divisions.
