NOTE-WORTHY: Tributes to DPP
published: Monday | March 24, 2008

Tributes to DPP

The Soroptimist Club of Jamaica, Kingston, extends to Paula Llewelyn our heartiest congratulations on her appointment as director of public prosecutions.

We look upon her as our daughter, as we have been associated with her for a long time through her late mother, Mavis Llewelyn, who was a staunch Soroptimist and who lived by the rules of Soroptimism, and its high ethical standards which she has certainly emulated.

Well done. All the best for the future.

- Dorothy Lacroix, past president, Soroptimist Club of Jamaica (Kingston)

I have known Paula Llewellyn for the past many years, and I can attest to her strength of character, her overwhelming competence in the discharge of her duties, also of her general deportment, which makes her the ideal person to set the standard for the upcoming generation. She is a fearless prosecutor and one who is always willing to tackle difficult tasks in her field.

She likes challenges and from time to time, she heads the prosecution in some of the most difficult cases brought before the courts in Jamaica. Her devotion to duty stands out as a beacon for others to emulate. The courts will greatly benefit from her wealth of knowledge and her balanced judgement. Jamaica salutes her on her promotion to the position of director of public prosecutions.

Abortion licence

Passing into law the recommendations made by the Abortion Law Review Advisory Committee would be granting licence to doctors to perform abortions at will on perfectly healthy women carrying perfectly healthy babies throughout all stages of pregnancy for financial gain, for the promotion of birth control, and for socio-economic reasons under the guise of 'preserving' the women's lives or 'health'.

Plea for help

My mother made a will leaving a four-bedroom house for my four sisters and me. This house was partially damaged by Hurricane Dean. The roof was blown off, doors and windows damaged, and the walls cracked and crumbling in several places. The blown-off zinc sheets were put back, but the roof leaks badly whenever it rains.

I am 63 years old and my sisters and I are unable to repair the house. I am, therefore, appealing to the local and international people to repair the house for me or build a strong house for me on the property. The 'Good Samaritans' could include architects, labourers and the rich. Thank you for your help.

- Hortense Reid, Marlie Hill P.A., Manchester
