Body of UK woman found
published: Saturday | March 22, 2008

Nagra Plunkett, Assignment Coordinator

WESTERN BUREAU:

Area One Crime Scene investigators yesterday afternoon recovered the body of a 61-year-old British national, who was reported missing from her Bullocks Heights residence in Somerton, St James,on Sunday.

The detectives had to climb into a pit behind Barbara Jones-Scott's local home to retrieve her body, which was clad only in underwear.

The body had several wounds to the head, including a fractured skull and broken teeth and nose. The police said she was killed between Wednesday and Friday of last week.

Superintendent Steve McGregor, head of the St James Police Division, used the opportunity to make an appeal to 30-year-old Omar Reid, who they have not been able to locate and who they say can assist their investigation.

"We are appealing to Mr Reid to come in as we need to speak to him. We need to bring closure to this situation," McGregor said.

He also revealed that there was "an established relationship" between the two.

The Adelphi policed were alerted to Jones-Scott's disappearance through a phone call from her daughter in England. When the police made checks at the retired nurse's residence, they found the house and her red Nissan Pathfinder.

However, when they managed to get inside the house, they found the lights on and the radio and television playing. Her travel documents were also found.

One of Scott's daughters, Suzie Jones, told The Gleaner earlier this week that her mother - who has her permanent home at Brandon Way, Leeds in England - first came to Jamaica 10 years ago.

Scott arrived in Jamaica in January and was scheduled to leave on April 1.
