published: Thursday | March 20, 2008

Reid

The launching of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Church Army in Jamaica will be a feature of the 138th Synod of the Anglican Church in Jamaica and Grand Cayman. The launch takes place with the opening service at St Peter's, the parish church in Falmouth, on March 26, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

At the service, Lord Bishop the Rt Rev Dr Alfred Reid will deliver the first part of his charge to the church and nation, under the theme: 'God's mission, God's people, God's power'.

Leaders to attend

The service will be attended by Anglican clergy and lay representatives to the synod from across the island as well as national and community leaders headed by Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall and Lady Hall.

A combined choir, under the direction of organist Audley Davidson, with instrumentalists from the Jamaica Defence Force Band, will lead the music.

The business session of the synod will be held March 26-28 at the Starfish Trelawny Hotel. A feature of the agenda will be the launching of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Church Army in Jamaica. The Church Army is the evangelistic arm of the Anglican Church worldwide.
