MEADHAVEN UNITED strengthened their chances of advancing to this year's Premier League play-offs with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Cavalier in the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) Super League competition at the Michigan Oval on Saturday.

Meadhaven United lead the standings with 42 points followed by second-place Bull Bay (34), who recorded a 1-0 victory over the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF, 28).

Fabian Nethersole scored an 86th-minute goal to carry third- place Santos (30 points) to a 1-0 win over Police National (16).

Exciting draw

In the day's other game, Duhaney Park (19) played to an exciting 4-4 draw with bottom side Rockfort (two) while the game between Maverley/-Hughenden and Mountain View was postponed.

Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis, coach of Santos, said his team had thrown in the towel and was now looking forward to rebuilding for next season.

"It is obvious that we won't win the league this season," said Dennis. "However, we are trying to keep this team together for next year because this is a very good unit and once we can do this - and with a few more additional new players - then we will be very hard to beat."

"We have been playing good football all season but we haven't been scoring any goals. We also have been conceding some simple goals at times, however, today we played really well."

Major League wins

In the Major League competition, Brown's Town defeated Central Kingston 3-2, Swallowfield edged University of Technology (UTech) 2-1 and Seaview Gardens and Liguanea United played to a 1-1 draw.

In the Syd Bartlett League, Molynes United thrashed Island Special Constabulary Force (ISCF) 4-0 and New Kingston stopped Pembroke Hall 2-1.
