The breath of life

This week, I am continuing with my series of articles on the mind-body connection.

The breath - This is the beginning of life yet, lack of it ends life. It is said that 'man was formed from the dust of the ground and God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.' The breath is inhaling air into the lungs and expelling air. The air we breathe is important to life as it is a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen.

Deep breathing is very important to help the mind, body and spirit to be in tune and is the most powerful antioxidant for our body cells. In meditation with deep breathing, we can reach a point within self that takes us outside of ourselves! Then will healing begin within the tissues and body cells.

Clean environment - Mankind has polluted the environment. Nature has provided sustenance and shelter for the physical body. There are so many natural sights to behold in nature to bring the spirit within us closer to our creator thus creating perfect peace and harmony. Nature is the cycle of rebirth and renewal, the rising and setting of the sun, the moonlight that flickers on the ocean ripples, the passing of all seasons to honour and revere in our pastime.

Water - This is most necessary for cleansing the cells internally and the body externally. The body is made up of 70 per cent water and so is Mother Earth. Water bathes the tissues within and also the body. Aromatic plants and herbs steeped in hot water makes a relaxing bath. The sea is packed with minerals which are excellent for the tissues of the skin and as nutrients in our diet.

Food - It is important to chew your food properly and slowly. It has been proven that many of our social and physical ailments are caused from over-processed foods, refined foods and poor eating habits.

Our cells need constant nourishment or else malnutrition will be the result. The body is made up of many elements; the principal ones are oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, silicon and manganese. In order to maintain or regain a proper balance of health, we must eat live, vital organic elements which are found in fresh raw vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.


The mind - This you cannot see! Yet, I can tell you my mind! Some of us have gone aloft, beyond the clouds in thoughts and action possibly forgetting how we originated and that the way we think actually shapes every facet of our lives.

As a man thinketh so is he. Did you know that the person who is a constant worrier lives in a state of anxiety? This state produces cancer-forming cells to attack the body when the immune system is low. The impatient personality who is always on the go is usually accident-prone. A person's way of life (living with constant stress) is the expression of his or her thought habits.

Pain - We should try to explore recent events in our lives that surround the time that pains are manifested. When you have a sore throat, think of the person you could not respond to, to tell off and instead you swallowed your pride! A pain in the knee or leg? There is someone you would have liked to kick down, but could not.

The thoughts we harbour affect our health. Meditation will assist in transforming the negative thought processes to pure love and radiant health.
