Man of the Match Ram-naresh Sarwan ... ready to return to the fold. File
ST THOMAS,
US Virgin Islands (CMC):
Captain Runako Morton was left stranded four runs short of a century as Guyana needed just 35 minutes to wrap up the Leeward Islands innings and complete an easy innings and 29-run victory yesterday.
The right-handed Morton, unbeaten on 81 overnight, finished on 96 as the Leewards were dismissed for 182 in their second innings after resuming the day at 160 for eight at the Addelita Cancryn Ground.
Off-spinner Zaheer Mohammed claimed the two remaining wickets to finish with four for 40 while fast bowler Trevon Garraway, who ripped out the Leewards top order on Sunday, finished with three for 56. Medium pacer Esuan Crandon chipped in with two for 54.
Anthony Martin partnered Morton in a 20-run last wicket stand in an effort to see the West Indies batsman to his century. After making four, however, he was bowled by Mohammed, leaving Morton stranded. Overall, Morton spent 222 minutes at the crease, faced 126 balls and struck eight fours and two sixes.
Comfortable victory
On Sunday, Garraway set Guyana on course for a comfortable victory when his opening burst sent the hosts rocking to 51 for four, a position from which they never really recovered.
West Indies batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan had earlier converted his overnight unbeaten 89 into 150 as Guyana, resuming from 299 for six, were bowled out for 415, securing a lead of 211 runs. Sarwan was named Man of the Match.
