Walker
Champion jockey Omar Walker has appealed a four-day suspension imposed by the stewards on Tuesday for careless riding at Caymanas Park on two separate racedays.
The notice of appeal was made yesterday by the jockey's attorney- and according to a Jamaica Racing Commission source, this will be heard on Thursday, March 20.
Walker, a 2.0kg claiming apprentice, was slapped with a three-day ban for careless riding aboard PUNDIT in the sixth race on Saturday March 1, causing interference to DR. BADOO a furlong out, this resulting in the disqualification of his mount from second place.
Walker picked up a further one-day suspension for his riding aboard beaten favourite MR. BLAIR in the eighth race won by the 22-1 outsider TRACKING DEVICE last Saturday.
He was penalised for interfering with TRACKING DEVICE when running down on the lead to the rails a furlong out. forcing TRACKING DEVICE to be checked and switched from the inside to the outside.
Walker, who has ridden 10 winners in the past three race days to be the leading rider with 28 wins, should have started his suspension on Saturday, March 22 thus missing rides in the season's first classics, the 1000 and 2000 Guineas on April 5. But this could change, depending on the outcome of his appeal.
