Bartlett
She is unable to move around as much as she would, as she has a medical condition that confines her to a wheelchair. But even though the going gets tougher each day, Irma Bartlett is still pursuing a degree at the University of the West Indies.
Bartlett has a thirst for knowledge, despite her current situation. She has to depend on others to take her to classes.
"I recognise the importance of an education and this is why I decided to pursue my education, even though I'm crippled," she said.
"Lecturers don't make any special arrangements for me and there are instances where I'm in a class and students just walk out and leave me behind."
Miracle
She added: "There are times I feel like calling it quits, but God is seeing to it that I pull through and I feel that there is going to be a miracle."
With all the challenges, Bartlett says her eyes are set on the prize and, though she is not getting the kind of help that would serve to make her life much easier, she is still pressing on.
She said doctors are unable to determine the cause of the problem that led to her being confined to the wheelchair and the numerous tests she has to take in search of the cause have severely compromised her financial status.
"All my funds have been exhausted as I have to stand all the costs in relation to my medical problem. I am praying that I get help where my condition is concerned. I am also appealing to the public to help in whatever way they can," added Bartlett.
