The Order of the Caribbean Community was awarded to four outstanding Caribbean citizens at the recent 19th Inter-sessional meeting of CARICOM held on March 9 in The Bahamas.

The honourees are Professor Rex Nettleford, vice chancellor emeritus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), and outstanding Caribbean scholar and cultural icon; George Lamming, internationally recognised Caribbean author; Dr Nicholas Liverpool, president of Dominica and a former dean of the UWI's Faculty of Law, and retired West Indies batting great Brian Lara, who ended his career with the highest aggregate in the history of cricket.

The conferment will take place at the 29th regular meeting to be held in July in Antigua and Barbuda.
