Foster
Deputy solicitor General Patrick Foster has resigned from that post. His resignation takes effect on June 26.
Foster has been acting as solicitor general since October last year when Michael Hylton resigned.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) is yet to announce who will serve as the new solicitor general.
The sole applicant for the post, Douglas Leys, was interviewed last Wednesday.
However, there has been no word on the outcome of the interview.
The former members of the PSC were dismissed after Prime Minister Bruce Golding took issue with the then commission's recommendation that Professor Stephen Vasciannie be appointed the new solicitor general.
Following the installation of the current PSC members, new applications were invited for the post.
But Opposition Spokesman on Justice Senator A.J. Nicholson opposed the plans to reopen the application process.
He said plans to appoint a new individual to fill the post could set a precedent where the laws might be flouted to meet the wishes of the prime minister.
