Parents, do your job!
published: Friday | March 7, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE NEED parents to be more involved in the lives of their children; but there's only one little problem with that, we need parents. A lot of children I know don't have parents, at least functional ones. Believe it or not, a lot of these parents are clueless about proper parenting. That's one of the great issues that our teachers have to deal with, we can't expect the teachers to parent.

We are not going to see improvements in our society until that occurs. Another issue is the matter of violence. I wanted to say the media should play their part, but that won't help. The home is the nourishing ground; we all know that's where it all begins. I have this concept that children are very smart, but a lot of grown folks think they're not.

I love this country, but it really gets to me sometimes. Parents, do your job, neither the government of Jamaica nor the Jamaica Teachers' Association will do it!

I am, etc.,
