A number of athletes emerged double winners at the Carifta Games Trials, which ended at the Stadium East Complex yesterday.

They include Seaforth High's Javere Bell, Natoya Goule of Manchester, Kemoy Campbell of Bellefield, Earl Lee of Calabar and Samantha Elliott of Immaculate.

However, at the end of the day, the most talked about race was the boys' Under-20 200m in which Calabar's Ramone McKenzie ran a sizzling 20.69 seconds to beat St. Jago's Nickel Ashmeade (20.80).

Lee, McKenzie's teammate, completed the boys' Under-17 sprint double by winning yesterday's 200m in 21.86 seconds ahead of A-Shawni Mitchell of Wolmer's (22.07).

Elliott was also in fine form over the hurdles by adding the 100m Under-17 hurdles, which she achieved in 14.49, to her 300m hurdles.

In the boys' Under-17 400m, Bell completed his double by winning the boys' Under-17 400m in 48.54 seconds, beating Mayday High's Nolan Williams (49.21). He had won the boys' 800m on Saturday.

Goule, who took the 800m on the opening day, returned to take yesterday's 1500m title in 4:33.05 seconds ahead of Edwin Allen's Mackola Joseph (4:39.40) and Manchester High's Neisha Morgan (4:46.00).

Top distance man

Campbell, the island's top distance man, ran 3:53.40 seconds to beat Conroy Crossman of Edwin Allen (3:56.30) and Daren Lindsay of Manchester High (4:01.20) in the boys' Under-20 1500m.

Vere's Jura Lee turned the table on St. Thomas Technical's Carrie Russell in the girls' Under-20 200m, winning in 23.72 ahead of Russell (23.93). Yanique Ellington (24.42) and 100m champion Petra Fanty (24.49) handed Holmwood a one-two finish in the Under-17 girls 200m.

UTech's Alecia Cutanar took the girls' Under-20 400m in 54.05, beating Kayon Robinson of Vere (54.78) and Amoy Bailey of Edwin Allen (54.92), while the boys' equivalent went to Mannings' Darrion Bent in 47.00 ahead of Dwayne Extol of Wolmer's (47.81).

Manchester High's Sandrae Farguharson took the Under-17 girls' event in 54.46 ahead of Vere's Shericka Jackson (54.52), while Carla Thompson of Edwin Allen won the girls' Under-17 1500m in 4:49.87 ahead of Molly-Ann Blake of St. Jago (4:59.27). Jamaica College's Waquar DaCosta took the boys' event in 4:11.90 ahead of Lewisville's Dwayne Hibbert (4:13.33).
