Your health issues
published: Monday | March 3, 2008

Karen Blair, Features Writer

A woman's health should be her top priority. However, many times we tend to use time to take care of our partners and children, trying to maintain a stable environment for everyone else around us to the detriment of our health.

According to the website www.medlineplus, women and men have many similar health problems, but they can affect women differently. For example, women may have different symptoms of heart disease. Some diseases or conditions are more common in women, such as osteoarthritis, obesity and depression. And some conditions, such as menopause and pregnancy, are unique to women.

You first

Women need to take care of themselves first. Some health issues can be avoided if careful measures are taken. Pregnancies should be planned and seeing your health-care provider is vital while pregnant. Ensure that you have regular mammograms and screenings as early detection is important for treating breast, cervical, uterine and ovarian cancer.

The importance of proper health care cannot be overestimated, especially for women. In this feature, we will highlight important steps to take in maintaining a healthy lifestyle as well as preventative and treatment methods for some common illnesses unique to women. Of course, unlike pantyhose, there is no 'one-size-fits-all' remedy for certain illnesses. Therefore, not all methods will benefit everyone and you must see your health-care provider before undertaking any kind of treatment method.
