Thanks to a 30-1 upset by SIMPLE SWEET in the eighth race and to a lesser extent HAIL THE GENIUS at 9-1 in the six, both the Pick-9 and Super-6 proved elusive at Caymanas Park on Wednesday.
As a result, the Pick-9 boasts a carryover of $1,114,340.22, while the Super-6 offers a carryover of $1,079,180,21 and being the more popular bet, is almost sure to offer a bigger payout than the Pick-9 if caught.
The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11, the Super-6 from six to 11. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a 4-y-o and up restricted allowance race (non winners of three over 1200 metres to be contested by seven starters, including KAMECHI, RIGGED TO WIN and Dr. BADOO, all winners in recent weeks.
These three should prove highly competitive, especially consistent RIGGED TO WIN who won over the distance on February 2. LADY INDIRA, however, had both RIGGED TO WIN (4th) and DR. BADOO (5th) behind when finishing second to THE BEST MAN over 1100 metres on February 9 and should confirm her superior over those two, and beat the others as well. Leading jockey Shane Ellis has the ride, a plus in the filly's favour.
RED I, who won over the straight five course on January 30 but had no luck in running behind BUSTER JACK in her subsequent race over same, should once again get it right in the seventh race for $170,000 claimers over the straight.
Badly hampered
Now dropped in class and champion jockey Omar Walker persisting with the ride, RED I who was badly hampered by the bolting TANTESOLDE at the start yet finished close up, should win from down in class FIWI EMBLEM and DOMINADOR in a field of seven.
The eighth race for the Tewfic Ziadie Memorial Cup over 1820 metres looks tailored for down in class LATIN KING, despite the presence of HEZA RANKING who won over 1500 metres on Wednesday.
Trained by Ryan Darby, LATIN KING has been running consistently well since winning the Altamont V. Armond Memorial Cup over 2000 metres on January 12 and now stepping down in class with only 48.0kg, is preferred to Trevor Simpson's mount HEZA RANKING and down in class SIR ROMEL.
The eighth race for native and untried three-year-olds has attracted 13 starters but indications are victory will go to the well-forward debutante FIRST LADY, with Walker riding for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta. This bay filly by Outrigger out of the Star Attitude mare Economic Sensation has worked well and should win from BALLROOM DANCER. The last two races should be won by down in class CLOCK WORK (nap selection) and MAGNIFICO, who failed narrowly last time out.
