The The Editor, Sir:
I read with interest the article 'Baptists living in the Spirit' by Devon Dick. I'm a Bible man myself and understand my spirit bears witness with those who have the same in-dwelling Spirit of God (concept taught in Roman 8:16). There is a distinct difference in following the emotionalism of Brother and Sister Simon in Jamaica's worship today. The same brother and sister invite and incite so-called Christians to raise hands and praise the Lord in comparison to the broken and humble spirit God reacts to. (Psalms 38:14)
The church
In commenting on the Church involving itself in the political world, I keep my focus on lost souls and the preaching of the Word, as Paul the missionary instructed young pastor Timothy to do. (1Co 5:13) "Them that are without God judgeth."
The unconverted are left in the hands of God. He will judge them according to their deeds. (People's New Testament commentary). True Baptists will move under the impulse of the Holy Spirit and shout the glories of God and praise the Lord, but not as Brother and Sister Simon bid them (often yelling aloud their instructions of praise, exciting the crowd).
The Holy Spirit that should be in the holy place is one that is sweet, displaying humility on the Christian's face. So, I invite my learned colleague, let us as God-called men discern by all means the burning desire of the Holy Spirit and be sure the heart is ignited by the Comforter (John 4:16)and not the trumpeter.
I am, etc.,
