What makes music?
published: Thursday | February 28, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Ian Boyne's Dancehall's Betrayal 0f Reggae piece (Sunday, February 24) hit the nail right on the head and just short of where the buck stops.

Who is taking up for the music and the musicians? No one. No one seems to know about my profession - music. Not being a lawyer, a doctor, a carpenter, a mason, etc., makes it easy for me to comment.

So please, those of you studying reggae (Reggae Studies) remember a music is made up of at least three ingredients, namely, a tune (melody), lyrics (words) and rhythm (mento, ska, rock steady, reggae, dancehall) and not a dreadlock hairstyle or a big spliff (ganja).

I am, etc.,

SONNY BRADSHAW
