PORT MORANT, St Thomas:

The town of Port Morant in the eastern parish of St. Thomas is transformed into a lake whenever it rains heavily, as the Ward River, which runs westward through the towns, breaks its banks causing flooding.

Motorists, commuters, and residents alike, are inconvenienced as there is n route. Motorists oftentimes wait long hours for the water to subside and at times are left stranded.

Some commuters brave the waist-high murky waters in order to arrive at their destination, while some residents are flooded out and have to seek refuge elsewhere.

This has been an ongoing problem for decades and is yet to be dealt with by the relevant authority.

Late last year when heavy rains lashed the country, Port, Morant almost became a port, and while work is being done to the Yallahs ford, Morant Bay has been forgotten.
