Records tumble at Stadium

THREE RECORDS were broken in early action at yesterday's sixth University of The West Indies (UWI)/Gatorade Invitational track and field meet at the National Stadium.

Shelly-Ann Fraser of the University of Technology (UTech) shattered her own record in the women's 200m with 23.84 seconds, surpassing the previous mark of 24.13. Latoya King of G.C. Foster College (24.87) and Renae Reid of UWI (25.84) finished second and third.

Tanice Bennett of UWI broke the women's 3,000m Open record with a new mark of 10:16.59, which erased the previous best of 10:46.30, held by Merrecia James of G.C. Foster College.

Evan Allen of Royalty Track Club broke the men's 800m record in 1:52.79, which erased the previous time of 1:52.87 held by Ricardo Cunningham of Bluebird Track Club.

Isheka Brown of Vauxhall won the girls' Class One 800m in 2:33.23 ahead of Machola Osagboro of Wolmers' (2:34.32) and Monique Ricketts of Happy Grove (2:44.68). Roxcine Salmon captured the girls' Class Two 800m in 2:19.81 in front of Tiffany Campbell of Immaculate (2:25.01) and Anna-Kay Edwards of Wolmer's (2:28.62).

minor placings

Jhevere Hall of Papine won the girls' Class Three 800m in 2:20.50. Monique Arnett of Cumberland (2:24.87) and Shanique Miller of Queens' (2:32.83) filled the minor placings.

Calabar's André Thomas captured the boys' Class One 800m in 1:57.07 ahead of his teammates Rory Rhoden (1:57.26) and Odwayne Marsh (1:57.36). Carlton Cousins of Calabar won the Class Two boys' 800m in 2:09.52 ahead of KC's André Barnaby (2:11.41) and Richie Riley of Jamaica College (2:11.68).

Latoya Campbell of Queen's won the girls' Class One 400m in 58.92 ahead of her teammate Sherice Thompson (59.08) and Annockay Bissney of Clan Carthy (1:02.21).

Jodi-Ann Smith of Campion College won the girls' Class Three 400m in 58.81 ahead. Shaneil Fairclough of Wolmer's (1:01.07) and Shanique Thompson of Immaculate (1:01.24) came second and third.

Claudia Calder of Alpha Academy won the women's high jump Open with a leap of 1.75m, ahead of Wolmer's Anna-Lisa Myers (1.70m) and Shanica Hall (1.65m).

Dwayne Powell of KC won the men's 5,000m Open in 16:33.75. Calabar's Marvin Grant (16:52.75) and Tavoy Smith of Knox Community College (17:13.06) also reached the podium.

Rolando Berch of KC captured the boys' Class 400m in 47.91 in front of Jermaine Brown of Calabar (48.74) and Dwayne Extol of Wolmer's (48.93).
