published: Saturday | February 16, 2008

With growing concern about lifestyle diseases and obesity, health is the buzzword on the lips of many Jamaicans as increasing numbers of our citizens are taking exercising seriously. But, most young Jamaicans find it a difficult task to get up each day and work out. So we found a few useful items that can help you go through that long exercise session.

Bluetooth stereo headsets

Do you enjoy listening to music wherever you go? You should consider the convenient, comfortable, and high-quality solution that Bluetooth stereo headphones provide. We had the chance of trying two types of Bluetooth stereo headsets, the clip-on, and the other which hangs round the back of the neck. These two Bluetooth headsets have their advantages when exercising in the gym or on the road jogging. These are just some of the key points we found while using these two Bluetooth devices:

Sport Bluetooth headset

Pros

Comes with a mini USB charger plug.

Great for less-active exercise routine.

Con

Not comfortable for long use.

Clip-on Bluetooth headset

Pros

Stays in place while running or jogging.

Light and easy to manage.

Automatically switches between the incoming call and music.

Con

Only works with devices that support A2DP.

Please note that these headsets are designed to make you enjoy music from Bluetooth-enabled device, and at the same time keep you connected to your Bluetooth-enabled cellphone.

iPod shuffle

Listening to high-energy music such as rock usually gets many persons in a state of mind to work rock songs might not do it for you, maybe another category of music will get your adrenaline pumping. Exercise buffs who need music to get the most out of their workout session should consider getting themselves an iPod shuffle. It's as small as two $10 coins, and gives you better sound quality than any mp3 player out there.

The only downside to owning an iPod shuffle is that it doesn't have a display screen for you to visually navigate your songs. At times, I felt like I was shooting in the dark to find my favourite tracks. But when all is said and done, there is no substitute for having this small and compact iPod when you're exercising.

Conclusion

The two Bluetooth headsets featured are best suitable for people who love music as much as they love being at work. On the other hand, for people who just need music only for a better exercise routine, the iPod shuffle is definitely for you.
