More than the money - Bravo
published: Tuesday | February 12, 2008

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo says money is not the motivating factor for Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) in the cash-rich Stanford Twenty20 tournament.

Bravo, who recently returned from the West Indies' tour of South Africa where he was stand-in captain, said the team enjoyed playing together and was spurred by the goal of winning titles for T&T.

"I love to play cricket for T&T. This team has tremendous team spirit and camaraderie. What has really struck me with this team is the fact that they go out there to play cricket and win trophies for T&T," Bravo pointed out.

"We are playing in the Stanford Twenty20 cricket series where the first prize is one million US dollars and this is really a fantastic prize. However, being around the guys on the T&T team, one gets the feeling that the money is not the motivating factor.

"Don't get me wrong, it would be great to walk away with the US$1M first prize, but what I am saying is that, the real motivating factor is winning another trophy for the country.

"I think this is one of the major factors that differentiates this team from the ones of the past. They are supremely motivated and they want to win trophies for T&T."

Bravo, who missed T&T's first match of the Stanford tournament against St Lucia, left yesterday with the T&T team for their quarter-final clash with St Vincent and the Grenadines tomorrow.

The 24-year-old, who sounded a warning to opponents with good all round displays in two warm-up games over the weekend, said that team spirit would take T&T very far.

"The fact that the money is not the motivating issue is what I think would lead us to the title," Bravo reasoned.
