Kingston College (KC) rallied to edge Ardenne High 48-47 yesterday at the National Stadium courts in the Under-19 category of the ISSA/KFC Southern Conference High School Basketball League.

Omari Green led the way for 'The Purples' with his 21-points, which included a jaw-dropping slam dunk midway the final quarter, and 14 rebounds. Christopher Thomas added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Ardenne led for most of the first half, thanks to forward Alex Lubsey, who ended with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Andrew Khan was a beast on the boards, collecting 20 rebounds and adding six points. Ardenne's collapse began in the third quarter where they only scored seven points while KC went on a 15-7 run to lead 38-32 at the end of the third quarter.

Good team play

Led by Green, KC maintained their good team play and held on to the advantage until the final whistle. A last second three-pointer by Lubsey helped to reduce the deficit.

"We lost the game in turnovers," said Ardenne coach Basil Barrett.

"Also with Luke Cooke out through injury we lost some points inside and rebounds. (But) if they are willing to work we can turn it around and see how things go on Thursday against Wolmer's," he added.

KC's narrow win in the senior division was a quick response to the 72-37 hammering their junior team got at the hands of Ardenne. Adam Fernandes led the whipping with 30 points, while Kemoy Wright top-scored with 14 points for KC.

In the other U-16 game yesterday, also at the Stadium courts, Meadowbrook got by Wolmer's 57-41. Tafari Newman and Cory Anderson netted 20 points each for the winners, while Howard Harvey top-scored with 11 for the losers.
