A 44-year-old mason, James Brown, of St Margaret's Bay, Portland, who was charged on Friday with the murder of the mother of his four children, is to appear in the Resident Magistrate's court in Buff Bay, this afternoon.

The man, who was on the run, was arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) in Port Antonio, last Thursday, after eluding them for the better part of seven months.

The mason, who at the time of the murder was sporting dreadlocks, was clean-shaven when arrested.

"He had apparently changed his features and appearance, which caused some difficulty and delay in us apprehending him," said Senior Detective Sergeant Kenneth Bailey of the Port Antonio CIB.

Visited the accused

According to the police, the deceased, 35-year-old Antonnette Haughton, reportedly left her home at Oliver Road in Buff Bay on June 25, last year, to visit the accused.

The police say the woman was not seen after and a report was made to the police.

On July 2, last year, CIB detectives found the woman's body, with the throat slashed, covered and buried in a hole near Brown's house at New Road, in St Margaret's Bay.

The police said a search for the man came up empty as he had reportedly fled the community.
