The Editor, Sir:Please let me commend The Gleaner on the publication of the article on 'Purchasing land', in The Sunday Gleaner of February 4.I must thank you on behalf of the members of the Land Surveyors Association of Jamaica (LSAJ) for the exposure you have given to the association and the profession. There were, however, some inaccuracies in the article that may have come from a misinterpretation of some of the things I said in the interview with you.
Wrong information
The article stated that Surveyors ID reports guarantee that the land is the land described in the title and that there are no covenant breaches. This is not so.The report states whether or not this is so and whether there are any covenant breaches. The article also may have given readers the impression that at the time of doing a report, the surveyor is required to repegg the boundaries of the property. This is not so.The repegging, if required is a separate excercise that the client has to pay for.The surveyor at the time of doing a report makes measurements to determine the relationship between registered title and the property on ground, and where there are breaches of covenants or disagreement in boundaries or the location of the property, he or she reports on it.I hope I have been able to lend some clarity to the points mentioned and that some way can be found to communicate this to the public.I am, etc.,Andrew GraceyPresident, LSAJ
