The Editor, Sir:I write as a citizen of this land, thankful/mindful that there are competent and committed ministerial colleagues who are articulating the official position of the Church in this public debate brought about in part by the report of the Abortion Policy Review Advisory Group. My understanding from the press conference last Thursday is that the Church and the other concerned groups want public discussion about the recommendations that the report makes. I have heard in some quarters of the press that the Church wants to stop the public discussion. Not so! I listened keenly to the press conference. LOVE Television ran the footage of the press conference twice last weekend.I am interested in knowing how much weight will be given by the minister of health and by parlia-mentarians to the opinions of the Jamaican people. The opinions of ordinary Jamaicans who have democratically elected our Parliament should weigh very heavily on, and affect the outcome of, any deliberations in Parliament. Each MP should reflect the views and conscience of the constituents, and not just his/her own individual conscience.I am, etc.,Rev DONOVAN D. COLE
