Air Jamaica has been awarded the Corporate Social Partnership Award by the Embassy of Grenada in Washington, DC.

Presenting the award at Grenada's 34th anniversary of independence reception on February 7 in Washington, DC, Grenada's Ambassador to the US, Dennis Antoine, said the award was presented to Air Jamaica in recognition of the airline's outstanding contribution, sustained commitment and collaboration on initiatives to benefit Grenada and the Caribbean.

"Air Jamaica understands corporate citizenship and partnership and has become, for Grenada, not just an airline but a corporate social partner as, when we call on Air Jamaica to assist, they always come forward," he said.

The ambassador, who is also dean of the Caribbean Diplomatic Corps, lauded Air Jamaica for its contribution to the island's tourism, economy and for choosing Grenada as one of its Caribbean routes.

Accepting the award on behalf of the airline was Air Jamaica's senior vice-president of sales and marketing, Paul Pennicook, who expressed appreciation for the recognition paid to the airline by the Embassy of Grenada.

"We at Air Jamaica are extremely proud of the philanthropic and corporate work that we do. Air Jamaica sees Grenada as a very special Caribbean destination and we are very proud to offer jet service to the Spice Island four days per week from out of New York and Baltimore," he said.

Pennicook said the airline was now looking at increasing its services to Grenada in the near future.

Representing Jamaica at the reception were Sharon Miller, deputy chief of mission, Embassy of Jamaica; Ann Scott, Jamaica's permanent representative to the Organisation of American States; Janet Madden, community relations attaché and Clifford Chambers, security attaché.
