Good works benefit inner-city children
published: Monday | February 11, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am deeply moved to commend an organisation that is making great strides in the area of philanthropy. The group to which I refer is non-profit in nature and is called Love and Hope Ministries (LAHM).

For five years, LAHM has been providing assistance to some inner-city children by means of lunch money, uniforms, clothing, shoes, school supplies and other essential items. Schools such as Seaward Primary and Junior High, St John's Primary and Mountain View Primary have benefited greatly from the group's support.

Children under Love and Hope's care are allowed to progress mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. They are counselled, encouraged and shown the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.

No idling

Instead of resorting to prostitution or a life of crime, many of these children now have their ambitions set on becoming lawyers, doctors and other professionals.

No longer do they idle their time in school because they realise their potential and they exercise self-discipline in their approach to studies in order achieve their goals.

It is a 'breath of fresh air' to have stories such as these highlighted in the media. Let us rebuild this beautiful country bit by bit. We can start by assisting the less fortunate around us. Help someone else to shine today.

I am, etc.,

SHERON WEIR
