Jewels of the Island
published: Monday | February 11, 2008

Yahneake Sterling, Staff Reporter

Juliet Wight, designer of Island Girl Jewellery.- Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

The islands are known for fun days and elegant nights and that's exactly what Island Girl Jewellery captures in its line of beautiful pieces.

Designer Juliet Wight taught herself to make the exquisite creations just over two years ago, with pieces varying from casual to elegant using shells, Swarovski crystals, wood, glass and porcelain.

Describing herself as creative and imaginative, Wight says the idea was born from a need to have a business that would allow her to use these skills while allowing flexible hours.

What makes her jewellery unique?

"They are hand-made. I also try to capture my customers' personality in the jewellery that we make," the mother of two tells Flair.

Customers can bring in their outfit and have their jewellery made to match it perfectly.

While the pieces are custom made for the most part, ready-to-go pieces are also available.

Wight's pieces cater to all age groups, including children.

Noting customers' concerns, Wight says all earrings are made with sterling-silver hooks. Clip-on earrings are also available.

Island Girl Jewellery is located at 1 Grosvenor Terrace, Kingston 8. Telephone: 302-6169.
