O'Connor, Boreland shine in Classic style

CAMPION College's Theon O'Connor and St. Jago's Rashane Boreland recorded impressive victories in the 800 metres at the 22nd Camperdown Classic yesterday at Stadium East.

O'Connor, won the boys' Class One event in 1:51.04 in front of Jamaica College's Bengallo Morrison 1:55.74.

O'Connor, who is also a CARIFTA Games gold medallist, said he was satisfied with his effort after the race.

"It was a good performance because it was a bit hot out there but I managed to pull it off in the end," said O'Connor.

"I think I executed the race well because the first lap was a pretty decent one, but I could have run a bit faster in the last 200m. I didn't push through very hard and this is some-thing that I will have to work on for the rest of the season."

Only double winner

Boreland, who was the only double winner at the meet, captured the Class One girls' event in (2:20.43) ahead of teammate Jonique Daye (2:21.40) and Kadian Foster of Mustang Track Club out of the Cayman Islands.

She then returned to win the Class One 1500m in 4:58.73 ahead of Twishane Williams of Dinthill Technical (5:03.20) and Trusey Williams of Edwin Allen (5:09.67).

Mario Forsythe of Racers Track Club won the men's 400m Open in 47.15, ahead of his teammates Annsert White (47.56) and Emmanuel Callinder (48.11).

Andre Thomas of Calabar won the Class One 1,500m in 4:09.68 ahead of his teammates Rory Rhoden (4:12.62) and Odwayne Marsh (4:13.57).

Jenice Daley of IT Dat Track Club won the women's 400m in (55.01), She was followed by teammate Danielle Browning (55.04) and Kerrian Stewart of Racers (57.75).

Andrew Riley of Calabar captured the boys' Class One high jump with a leap of 2.00m, ahead of St. Jago's Machel Baker 1.95m.

Kimarli Absolan won the Class Two high jump in a new meet record of 2.00m. Holy Trinity's Carey Gordon (1.90m) was second.
