Three years ago, he made his exit from the Palisadoes International Go-Kart Track as a skinny teenager, still attending Ardenne High. A young man with vast potential, his go-kart would develop mechanical problems almost every raceday.

His father Douglas, who was the main sponsor, got frustrated, packed up and called it day.

Although he did not weep openly, it was a hard blow for Dane Lawson, who wanted to race badly. When he went to live with his father in Four Paths, Clarendon, not even drag racing at Vernamfield could grab his interest.

'Dream come true'

When the proprietor of New Life Pharmacy, Sam Law, approached Dane to represent his team in the local go-kart championship, it was one of the greatest moments of his life.

"I never know that I would get the opportunity to race again. This is like a dream come true," said Dane, who has been busy at the track, establishing some impressive times.

The teenager, who is now in the process of starting his own business, will be competing in the Rotax International Class.

"While winning will be a plus, the fans can expect some good driving and I will be a good competitor," the younger Lawson gushed.

In the meantime, his sponsor, Sam Law, has purchased some sophisticated and high-powered karts to take on the competition.

Stay focused

His son, Jonathan Law, and Dane will be racing under the watchful eyes of veteran driver, Peter Rae.

"I chose to get involve with go-karts because it helps my son (Jonathan) to stay focused. Since he started, his grade has began improving," explained Law.

The next go-kart race meet is scheduled for Sunday, February 24. Dane's presence should provide excitement for the scores of patrons who are expected to turn out for the meet.
