The Editor, Sir:In what would have been the 63rd birthday of Bob Marley, we pause to recognise this great man. Undoubtedly, the world recognises his greatness and, among all things, he is loved as a true artiste, teacher and an epitome of Jamaica's creativity. Why do I write? I am at an international school where I represent Jamaica in all areas of our rich culture. I have met students from Wales, Scotland, Nigeria, Norway, Israel and Iran, all of whom have different ideals and different aspects of culture. Yet, whenever there is a communal event in the college, or when we just 'easy back' around a camp fire, we are brought together by similarities. One such similarity is our love for the 'Jam-icon', Bob Marley. No Woman Nuh Cry or Three Little Birds always get the nationalities in the move and in the groove.
Paradise
The fact is obvious. Jamaica is a nation that is known worldwide for its rich culture and is often regarded as a paradise by some people. We need to preserve our culture and hold dear to us what makes us special. The world is with Jamaica an at times it seems as if we drive visitors away, we are still a great people. 'Inity' is what we need and as Bob would say, we need to get up, stand up, and stand tall as true Jamaicans.Let's build. Tek care.I am, etc.,WRENFORD THAFFEwrenthaffe1@yahoo.comWalesVia Go-Jamaica
