The Editor, Sir:

Recently, the Government has finally decided to go with LNG for the productive sector and I applaud the effort. The question to be asked at this juncture, however, is what about a policy to make individuals and communities empowered by giving them incentives to put in thei source of energy?

Yes, I am aware that the previous government removed some duties on solar panels, but what about removing all duties on all solar products and wind turbines? Every time the price of a barrel of oil is raised we all feel it at the pumps, in our light bills and other goods and services with the multiplier effect.

Sir, the Government must act decidedly now as I heard some recent utterances by the Government that the recession in the US might be a blessing in disguise for Jamaica as one of the positives is the trending down of oil prices. This kind of thinking has been our downfall over the years until another crisis occurs like the Gulf War in our recent past.

As a people, we are too parochial in our thinking and on the other hand there are too many studies and plans done by government over the years that are in 'file 13' because we are a bunch of chatter boxes with short attention spans.
