Jamaica open their 20/20 campaign tonight

COOLIDGE, Antigua:

JAMAICA'S CRICKETERS open their quest for title honours tonight against Bahamas at the US$1 million Stanford 20/20 tournament at the Stanford Cricket Ground.

Jamaica captain Tamar Lambert said his team was ready but would not be taking anything for granted against the Bahamas.

"Everything is looking good. So we just now need to come here and perform," said Lambert. "In 20/20 anything can happen but once you plan properly, most times, you will come out on top," he said.

Left-handed opening batsmen Shawn Findlay, who scored a 55-ball unbeaten 100 against Bermuda in a practice game on Sunday, Xavier Marshall, who got 77, and Danza Hyatt, who contributed 49 off 15 balls, are the form players with the bat.

There are also Wavell Hinds, Lambert and Brendan Nash to strengthen the batting while spinners Nikita Miller and Odean Brown, along with pacer Jermaine Lawson, will lead the bowling.

The Bahamas, who lost to Cayman Islands in the first round last year, are also confident going into the game. According to their association's president, Gregory Taylor: "The plan is to go into the game and play hard, take the fight to Jamaica and not wait for them to be the aggressors. The plan is to simply win."

Jamaica: Tamar Lambert (c), Wavell Hinds, Brendan Nash, Shawn Findlay, Danza Hyatt, David Bernard Jr., Nikita Miller, Odean Brown, Xavier Marshall, Andre Russell, Carlton Baugh Jr., Jermaine Lawson and Andre McCarthy.

Bahamas: Narendra Ekanyake (c), Andrew Ford, Whitcliffe Atkinson, Jonathan Barry, Garcha Blair, Gary Campbell, Mario Ford, Lee Melville, Himchand Rampersaud, Ryan Tappin, Gregory Taylor, Marc Taylor and Dwight Weakly.
