NOTE-WORTHY: Aussie friend
published: Wednesday | February 6, 2008

Aussie friend

Thank you for publishing your newspaper being online. I am from Australia and I spent six weeks in Jamaica over Easter in 2007 and spent most of my time in Trench Town and Central Village working with local people running community festivals and outreach. But I enjoy being able to check the local news from Jamaica anytime on my computer.

Aside from that I hope that, Australia and Jamaica can establish an economic relationship some day and I would love to see more Jamaicans come to my country to visit!

Mother and child

I am trying to locate the alleged mother of my child who is also with her.

I received a call from her in 1992 saying that she had a girl for me.

She took the child away and I have not heard from her since. The mother is name is Monique and she lives in Moneague, in St Ann. I would love for her to contact me. My name is John and I live in Toronto, Canada.

Security centre

The reaction of some citizens to the announcement of the judicial and security centres at Kingsland, three miles out of Mandeville was interesting. It would be informative to know whether the town/urban planner signed off on this project. Did the parish council on behalf of the people of Manchester make an input?

Curtailing crime

Criminals and crimes have been with us for a long time. The human societies may never be totally rid of crime; the causes and attraction are too many. Our best hope to contain crime would be to deal with the simple causes at the lower levels. The number one cause in my view is idleness due to unemployment of young people. Government needs to concentrate on putting the young strength of the nation to work, getting some money in their pockets. There are many areas where work can be created. There are miles of roads needing to be maintained, where work can be provided for thousands.

Creating work for people should be done with the same effort as trying to win an election. Any government which can see sense in this will be around for a long time. I am prepared and willing to discuss an effective proposal with any responsible department which chooses to listen, "service without obligation"
