Sponsorship boost for Santos
published: Friday | February 1, 2008

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Santos Football Club received a well-needed boost in their finances this week. They have secured a sponsorship deal valued at $450,000 from Lascelles Wines & Spirits, under its Wincarnis Tonic Wine brand name.

The funds will assist the team in offsetting off field challenges for the current Super League season and implementing necessary programmes to fulfil the objectives of winning the Super league in anticipation of returning to the National Premier League (NPL).

Changing fortunes

According to coach, Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis the sponsorship deal will allow the club to breathe easier.

"This is the first in a long time that a company is actually coming through with a major sponsorship for Santos and I believe this will result in the transformation of the club's fortunes for this season," Dennis said.

Trevin Nairne, brand manager of Wincarnis Tonic Wine, is confident that his company's partnership with Santos will help in the development of football in Jamaica and believes that such assistance is overdue as football clubs act as social agents in the development of young men in Jamaica.

"Wincarnis has been providing vitality and energy to Jamaican consumers for over 100 years, and we know this sponsorship will energise a club with Santos' rich history, talented players, and focused management as they aim to reclaim their spot in the NPL," Nairne said.

The sponsorship includes cash and product support that has been incorporated into a series of bar parties in the surrounding communities of Vineyard Town, Franklyn Town and Rollington Town.
