Rigged To Win fancied
published: Friday | February 1, 2008

Orville Clarke, Freelance Writer

Romez, running at odds of 19-1 with apprentice, Harriston Lewis, aboard, wins the 10th race in a driving finish from the subsequently disqualified CRUCIAL POINT (Lenroy Collins) at Caymanas Park, on Wednesday. - Colin Hamilton/Freelance Photographer

Both the Pick-9 and Super-6 start anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow, as despite a 19-1 upset by ROMEZ in the penultimate race, punters had the last laugh.

Tomorrow's Pick-9 will embrace all nine races on the card, while the Super-6 will be conducted from race four to nine.

We look at the Super-6 which gets underway with a competitive looking 1400-metre race ($260,000 - $230,000) to be contested by eight starters over 1400 metres.

With no fewer than five of the runners having good claims, I would implore punters to approach this race with caution. Horses such as FIWI EMBLEM, now dropped in class, INTROSPECTION, DESIGNED FOR LUCK, ALI SPENDER, ME LLAMO and hat-trick seeker PURE JUSTICE should enter the reckoning in a race of this nature.

ME LLAMO got up in the nick of time to beat SHAKE YOUR BOOTY over this trip on Boxing Day, and following a third place finish to HEZA RANKING over 1500 metres on December 29, can definitely rebound with less to do here. DESIGNED FOR LUCK, the mount of champion jockey Omar Walker, steps down in class on the convenient mark of 52.0kg after failing to stay 2000 metres behind LATIN KING on a $315,000 tag, January 12, and with the distance now perfect, his chances must be rated highly.

ME LLAMO to win from DESIGNED FOR LUCK and INSTROSPECTION is my idea of the outcome.

Famous bridesmaid

RIGGED TO WIN, easily the most famous bridesmaid at Caymanas Park, having finished second (five times) or third (three times) in nine of her last 10 races, now gets a glorious opportunity to win when she takes on six opponents in the fifth race (non- winners of two) over 1200 metres.

From the stables of champion trainer, Wayne DaCosta, the stretch running should relish every inch of this 1200-metre contest and having worked fairly well, should get there in the nick of time under in-form stable jockey, Dane Nelson. SUMMER PRINCESS, finished a close fourth to REX TIPOU over the straight on Wednesday.

Worked well

SMOOTH DUDE, who won easily in a good time over 1500 metres on January 12, has worked well in the preparation for the sixth race over 1600 metres and should give leading jockey, Shane Ellis, yet another winner. Still, the son of Royal Minister can expect stiff opposition from TRUE HONOUR and SHE'S OUTRAGEOUS, who was second to OUTFITHER when sprinting on Wednesday.

Briefly, LADY RAKWALAAY and recent winner, MISS ROSE, should fight out the finish of the eighth race over the circular nine course to be contested by eight starters.

The brilliant 4-y-o filly, OUTSTANDING, having impressed with a fast-time victory over the straight last Saturday, is hard to oppose against old rivals in the eighth race for the St. Catherine Cup over 1100m to be contested by seven open allowance horses.

Then, take the well-prepared WHEEL N DEAL, who was not beaten far on his debut on November 3, and returns on Lasix, to open his account at the expense of FIRST TIME LUCKY (Lasix as well) and the well-forward debutante, DOC'S TREATY, in the closing race over the straight, the Mercury Sprint for native bred maiden 3-y-o colts and geldings.
