WESTERN BUREAU:
The Early Childhood Education Foundation recently launched by Lorna Golding, wife of the prime minister, got a boost when renowned international designer, Jennifer Cukier, gave 20 per cent of a special sale of her jewellery to the foundation, on Sunday at Villa Stella, Tryall.
Good sales
A fairly large number of guests turned up and were able to purchase the jewellery, and were even encouraged by the designer to make donations which would be passed on to the foundation.
In an overview at the sale, Mrs. Golding said studies have shown that correcting early childhood problems would have a chain effect on the development of the nation, hence the initiative. She thanked the effort since it was the first real fund-raising event since the foundation was launched.
Some of the persons behind the effort are the hosts, James and Manieela Goren, along with general manager of Tryall, Doug Brooks, and his wife, Jacqueline.
Cukier has been designing jewellery for about 40 years and is a household name in the United States, having designed for many celebrities. Her line of jewellery is in over 500 stores in the US.
