The Editor, Sir:
The article by the Most Honourable Edward Seaga in The Sunday Gleaner of January 27 was indeed enlightening, but it states that the cheapest source of energy available to Jamaica at this time is coal. He rightly applauds Mr Golding for having chosen the better environmentall of LNG over coal.
However, the cheapest source of energy worldwide is uranium, which is the choice of most of the developed countries.
Mr Seaga obviously ruled out the possibility that nuclear power would not be "available" to Jamaica, but this is not so.
The fears associated with uncontrolled nuclear power are no longer warranted with the development of fail-safe methods of prevention, and the availability of small modular plants ideal for lesser developed countries will soon level the playing field.
Reduce energy cost
The Prime Minister should be made aware of the possibility of Jamaica lobbying successfully to be at the forefront of receiving this technology, which will not only reduce the cost of energy but place this blessed isle in our rightful position of leadership among small nations.
Our company, Amberland, is available for consultation and advice on this and technologies for waste management and environmentally sustaining systems, and look forward to making our contributions by providing synergism solutions for a better world.
