The Editor, Sir:Dishonesty in Jamaica has become a way of life. Indeed, I honestly thought so until last week when I was pleasantly surprised. I am here to testify that we still have good persons in Jamaica, land we love. A million thanks to Keisha Miller of Shoppers' Fair in Liguanea, and to Jeffrey Romans of Scotiabank Customer Care.
I had gone to Shoppers' Fair to do business and when I got home I discovered that my purse was missing. Now, that purse contained very important documents, including my driver's licence, several credit/debit cards (mine and my husband's) and cash. When I called the supermarket my heart sank when I could overhear that no one had seen the purse.
Despite this, I decided to leave home to check by where I was parked, just in case, but had little hope that it would be found. While driving, I turned over in my mind going to the police station to report the loss and calling the various card centres to report the loss, and how I would go about obtaining a replacement driver's licence. Not to be left out was my appeal to God for a miracle to locate the purse.
Purse found
Just as I was approaching Liguanea, coming from the Shortwood area, I thought I was dreaming when my cellphone rang and I heard a voice saying that he was Jeffrey from Scotiabank, and that my purse had been found! Sure enough, everything was intact when I received the purse from Keisha at Shoppers' Fair.
The caring of Jeffrey was, to my mind, unusual. He called Keisha to tell her to expect me, and then he called me to tell me that Keisha was expecting me, as the supermarket was, by then, closed to the public. He had, as a precaution, also put a hold on the scotiacard and urged me to call him back when I had it back in my possession.
Keisha informed me that she had called Scotiabank, having seen the telephone number on the back of the card, and had also called my workplace. When I went back home, I discovered that Jeffrey had also left a full message on my home phone.
These two individuals have renewed my faith in Jamaica and Jamaicans. There is hope, after all.
I am, etc.,
