NOTE-WORTHY - PM show a hit
published: Friday | February 1, 2008

PM show a hit

From all indications, Prime Minister Bruce Golding's inaugural Meet The People interactive talk show seemed to be an instant hit. His grasp of the subject matter with regard to the port-folios of his ministers and the work they have been doing was uncanny. The empathy and concern heard in his voice sounded genuine to the core. It was apparent that the persons who called in were elated, if not awed, by the fact that they were actually speaking to their prime minister in real time.

Another aspect of the presentation which was clearly noticeable was the ease with which he controlled the airwaves. It became readily apparent that his experience as a former talk show host at one of our radio stations really paid off. In fact, there was much food for thought in his presentation, not only for the general politically conscious populace but for radio broadcasters as well. The presentation in its totality was fantastic and simply amazing.

Slow death

I am a Jamaican living in the United States (US) for the last six years. I have just read Dr Vasciannie's speech on the return of hanging in Jamaica and how the system of capital punishment is affecting Jamaica's image abroad. Most people look at the US as the role model for anything. I am wondering how the US image is viewed as there are still several states that have retained capital punishment.

The US has so many people on death row for so many years that I believe that this is even a worse crime on humanity because that is a slow death. I believe that people should obey the laws of the land or pay the penalty for their wrongs. If death is the penalty, that is it, but it should be swift and not a torture.

Have a blessed 2008, Jamaica.

Sex and condoms

Not to talk about condom use by teens is not only wrong but also immoral. I have six brothers and we were taught by our mother early that protecting ourselves was the right thing to do.

Because of this early knowledge none of my siblings had unwanted children. Teens are going to have sex; teach then to protect themselves.
