JDF recruiting for National Reserve

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has embarked on an islandwide drive to recruit persons for service in the Third Battalion, the Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve).

In a press statement, the JDF says it is seeking employed young men who are interested in obtaining further part-time employment.

They may visit the following recruiting centres at 7:30 a.m. on the dates indicated below, where they will be required to sit an oral and written examination in reading, mathematics, English language and general knowledge:

Saturday, February 2: Charlie Company, Foster Barracks, Mandeville, Manchester.

Sunday, February 3: Delta Company, Burke Barracks, Montego Bay, St James..

Saturday, February 9: Echo Company, Whitehorne Barracks, Port Maria, St Mary.

Sunday, February 10: Up Park Camp, Curphey Barracks, Kingston.

Interested persons must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be the minimum age of 18 years and maximum of 28 years.

  • They must be of Jamaican nationality and have attained a minimum education of grade nine.

  • They must be available for training Thursday evenings, first Sundays, third weekends and for two weeks annual camp.

    According to the JDF, all applicants will undergo a preliminary medical examination. They must be medically fit and free from any disability or limitation.

    Applicants should ensure that they are in possession of an immunisation card and have received vaccinations for chicken pox, polio, measles, diphtheria, mumps and rubella.

    Applicants are also required to take along the following documents to the interview:

  • A job letter, stating name and address of employer.

  • Two recent recommendations - not more than three months old.

  • Two recent passport-size photographs, certified by a justice of the peace.

  • Original birth certificate.

  • School-leaving certificate or school record and any other academic certification.

  • National Insurance Scheme number and tax registration number.
