A jazzy weekend
published: Friday | January 25, 2008

Peter Fraser - contributed

And so, my dears, it is the weekend of the 24th, and it's all about Montego Bay and the annual Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

Sweet things, talk about a happening good thing, this is one such affair and then some. As it is, the city of Montego Bay is booked solidly for the event, with concert enthusiasts who failed to make early reservations now having to book as far away as Negril and Ocho Rios.

Now, while the majority of the out-of-towners are making the trek to the Second City for the musical fiesta, it is all about the music for many others. It is also about the profiling and fab lyming in the city in the sun.

And so, my dears, in between the acts and anticipated fabulous performances, Montego Bay will be sizzling, as the party people have all decided to enhance the jazz experience by soaking up some of MoBay's famous fab life. So, my daahlings, to lyme away the time between performances a trip to the fab Margaritaville on MoBay's Hip Strip, is a definite. So too is tea, at the Ritz.

Now, the Half Moon is not really known for it's great food, but it has absolutely great atmosphere, so popping in for libations here is definitely in order. For those with a discriminating palate, the place to dine and wine is unquestionably Cecile Levee's Wine With Me, Wine Bar and Restaurant, in th West hotel. This experience is most definitely beyond the ordinary.

Gorgeous

The absolutely gorgeous April Parchment-Knight, and the lovely Joan Lee of The Event Place, are promising a rendezvous with the musical senses and taste buds for those with that discriminating sense of occasion during the weekend.

For the sun-loving party animals, on Saturday, it will all be about Tease, billed as the ultimate beach party, at Tropical Beach, (Airport Road). An all-inclusive event that includes a Jamaican breakfast, and then some, kicking off at 11: 00 a.m. But the post festival hot do is the invitations only 'Command Performance', promised by Lennie Little-White, at his Orange Grove great house, in Trelawny, where the shortlisted group of special invitees will be treated to Jamaica's latest cultural tourism attraction The Outameni Experience.

My dears, this promises to be a cultural and social fabfest, of the highest order and the perfect mode to chill after the expected rush of the festival. And for celebrity watchers, this outing promises to be a feast, with the likes of actress, model and diva Grace Jones; boxing great Lennox Lewis; and a number of others expected to put in an appearance.

And so it is, my daahlings, a weekend chock-full of nothing but fab things to do, so you know, there will be hell to pay and then some!

And as this weekend clearly belongs to Montego Bay, so did last week belong to Ocho Rios, as with Couples Sans Souci and its flagship sister Couples Ocho Rios, both celebrating milestone anniversaries; the Government power retreat and the Prime Minister's annual media appreciation party at the simply fab Laughing Waters. Darlings, Ocho Rios was cooking with social steam and then some.

Belated birthday wishes to former technology minister Phillip Paulwell, who celebrated his special day on the 14th, with a special outing with his very special lady. No word yet, about the expected announcement of dates, but word is, they will not be changing course.

Belated wishes

The fabulous Betty Delfosse-Ingleton celebrated her birthday on the 23rd, by continuing her tour of Asia. Victoria Windle celebrated her birthday yesterday, the 24th, with mom and dad promising her a party on the weekend at their Laguna Beach home in California.

Belated wishes also to the charming Carol Foofanah, who blew out the candles on her cake last week.

Kudos to Peter Fraser and his staffers at the Royal Plantation, on being voted the World's Best All-Inclusive Resort, by TripAdvisor.com - the modern travel bible - in their sixth annual review of resorts around the vacationing globe.
