The Editor, Sir:Are we a Christian society as we claim to be, especially when it comes on to election time? How can we even contemplate issuing condoms to our children in school? What will happen to the family structure as we know it? What will happen when we destroy the foundations that are necessary for us to function as human beings and not as animals?
What will the next suggestion be? the reduction of the age of consent since just about every child in school can have sex, as the condom is readily available as a means of protection?
Why are we saying the condom is safe, when one wouldn't knowingly get intimately involved with someone who has a sexually transmitted disease?
Root causes
We are now seeing an escalation of violence and sexual acts in our schools. Why don't we deal with the root causes of our moral problems? Why don't we look at the way we use sex as a marketing tool in just about everything we sell? We need to improve the way we teach sex education in schools with the use of more visual aids showing the effects of STDs on the body and the family in general; increase censorship of the entertainment industry as it relates to the kind of programmes available to our children; and, encourage family counselling through the church and other NGOs.
Do not forget that the suggestion to issue condoms in our schools would only lead to the demise of the family structure as God ordained it and the subsequent destruction of the society, which is already on the decline with the erosion of good family values over the years.
Don't forget the decline of great empires of the past.
