NOTE-WORTHY - Condoms and bullet-proof vests
In following up on discussions about issuing condoms in schools, I must say I am against such an act. It shows that we are throwing in the towel by issuing condoms, as this is much easier to do than to teach abstinence.
The next thing we will be hearing is that during free periods at high schools there will be time to have sex, since we all have condoms.
So, I say if you are going to be issuing condoms in schools because our teens are having sex, we might as well issue bullet-proof vests in communities because our young men are killing each other.

Countless potholes
The main roads between Annotto Bay and Morant Bay in St. Thomas are among the worst in Jamaica with countless potholes.
I am sure that the Government is aware of the situation because of two recent elections, yet nothing is done about it. Does this means that this section of Jamaica is too backward and unproductive at this time, or am I too impatient?
I know that the owners of motor vehicles who ply this dangerous route have to spend more money on their vehicles. I am calling on the Government and the National Works Agency to move faster and have this important section of a Jamaica main road looking like a modern Third World country.

Truth movement
I also concur with the general responses from clergymen which were published in The Gleaner of Wednesday, January 23. I believe Detective Constable Carey Lyn-Sue should resign from the force, on principle.
You cannot betray the trust of the people and expect to retain your position. If there is a clamour for his retention by the leadership of the Force, then it is for them to take such an initiative.
However, his confession ought to lead to the development of a Truth and Reconciliation Movement which has already been mooted by others, both within the Church and beyond.
His sacrificial act should not go the way of other 'good deeds' which are merely admired but not followed.
