Highgate score narrow win at Pembroke Hall

Highgate United defeated Pembroke Hall 3-2 in division one of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/Northwest Development National Club League, at the Pembroke Hall Community Centre last Saturday.

In the women's match-up, Pembroke Hall turned the tables on Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club (SC) 3-0.

In a division two game played on Sunday at the Young Men's Christian Association, defending champions Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) stopped newcomers Athletico Port Antonio 3-0, while at Ingleside Wellness & Recreation Centre in Mandeville, Pembroke Hall edged Windalco Kirkvine SC 3-2 in division two and University of the West Indies (UWI) beat the hosts 3-2 in a women's duel.

Based on these results, the JDF now sit atop the standings with 24 points and a perfect win record. They are followed by Athletico Port Antonio on 20, UWI 14, Cable & Wireless, nine, and Hy-Performance seven.

The JDF will now face Cable & Wireless and Athletico Port Antonio will oppose UWI in the semi-finals.

Top of standings

The victory by Highgate United's women's team lifted them to the top of the standings, on 13 points, two ahead of UWI. They are followed by Pembroke Hall on 10 and Windalco Kirkvine SC with six.

Windalco Kirkvine SC have completed their fixtures, but Pembroke Hall have two matches remaining, while UWI and Highgate United each have a match left to play. The top two teams will qualify for the final.

In division two, Pembroke Hall lead the standings with 10 points, followed by Windalco Kirkvine SC on eight and Ensom United at four.

Pembroke Hall and Windalco Kirkvine SC will advance to the semi-finals where they will challenge the University of Technology and Cable & Wireless - runners-up and winners of Group One, respectively.

In division four, Windalco Kirkvine SC finished the season with an unbeaten 18 points, four ahead of Highgate United. Pembroke Hall with seven points and the Dinthill Technical Club team on four make up the rear. Windalco Kirkvine SC and Highgate United will contest the final.
