Mad rush for spots in final

The battle for the end-of- second-round final in the Cash Plus Premier League (CPPL) intensifies today with no fewer than six teams in contention.

Of all the teams fancying their chances, leaders Tivoli Gardens should be given pole position. They lead the round with 18 points and a win today against neighbours Boys' Town would put them closer to that goal and increase their possibility of ending the round with a maximum 27 points.

Boys' Town are the kind of team that cannot be taken for granted, despite their position in the tables. In their last two matches they held the high-flying Waterhouse and the star-studded Harbour View to draws. An even bigger scalp for them would be Tivoli Gardens.

Of note is the fact that Boys' Town are in with a chance of getting into the final, for, if they win all their matches, they could end up with 20 points. Their chances should be considered slim as they are too dependent on the misfortune of others to progress.

Waterhouse could not have hoped for a better time to face St. Georges than now at Lynch Park. In addition to drawing their last match at home, a place that was becoming a graveyard for visiting teams, they have lost their last two away matches and will go into today's game without four key players.

Among them are captain and top goalscorer Damion Harwood, Omar Davis, Dwayne Holmes and key defender Ricardo Taylor. All were red-carded following the fall-out from their clash with fellow-promoted team Sporting Central.
