NOTE-WORTHY: Search for friend
published: Wednesday | January 23, 2008

Search for friend

I am in search of Nicola Wallace, whose birthday is just days away on January 27. Nicola, who comes from St. Elizabeth, is a good friend of mine, with whom I lost contact when she migrated to New York. Her last address was Laurelston, Spanish Town. I would be obliged if anyone who has a telephone or e-mail contact for her or her parents in St. Elizabeth would contact me.

A prayer for the nation

Dear Editor, what is happening in the nation at this time is not good so I send this prayer for the people to read. God bless you Almighty and everlasting God in your kingdom you have taught us that peace is the holy order come through you to us. Make us understanding of that order, bless and keep the nation Jamaica in this way I pray, and let all children hear your call and abide by it. Let each one be their brother's keeper. May mercy obtain the evil heart of Satan who prowled through the world seeking souls to devour. Deliver us into your kingdom, Lord and give us strength through the advocate and mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Code of silence

Regarding the so-called "code of silence" of the police force, is there still a line in the Jamaica National Anthem that reads, "Justice, Truth be ours forever"? Or is this just hypocrisy?

Our greatest problem

Violence is our greatest problem, ever growing, more widespread, more vicious; now no one is safe. We know that the causes and effects of violence are related in kind: the hand of violence leaves its fingerprints; the causes of violence are violent; violence generates violence; sow the seed and reap the whirlwind; whoever lives by the sword perishes by the sword. Especially in our present condition, do we want to cause or even encourage medical violence or medical terror, maternal violence or maternal terror- more indiscriminate, more brutal, more deadly than any other? Abortion, as just another word in the dictionary, hardly describes the reality, a violence and terror no one survives, a slaughter in what should be the safest place on earth. Does anyone really want to be a part of this, or a cause of this in any degree?
