Captured Stone Crusher boss to be grilled
published: Tuesday | January 22, 2008

WESTERN BUREAU:

Detectives will today begin their interrogation of the head of the Montego Bay-based Stone Crusher gang, Eldon Calvert, who was captured in Wood Grove near Wait-A-Bit, Trelawny, yesterday.

The 25-year-old, who was named among the country's most wanted criminals last year, was held with three other persons, including a woman, during a predawn raid.

"He's currently being processed, after which he will be interviewed beginning tomorrow. The other three persons will also be interviewed with a view to determine, firstly, their identities, among other things," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Denver Frater, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch.

Calvert is reportedly wanted in connection with a range of offences, including murder, shooting with intent, illegal possession of a firearm and robbery. He, however, managed to elude the dragnet of the police despite several near arrests.

It is understood that the young man, who hails from Meggie Top in Salt Spring, St. James, was one of the main targets in the joint police/military operation in Tivoli Gardens, west Kingston on January 13.

Police reports are that, on Monday, a police team swooped down on a house in Wood Grove where Calvert has reportedly been hiding since Friday. The St. James man, along with a young woman, her brother and her boyfriend, were held inside the house.

A search of the house by Operation Kingfish personnel yielded no weapons. Calvert and the other persons were subsequently taken to Kingston.

Calvert has been fingered in several multiple murders in St. James, including those of five persons, one of whom was beheaded in the Flower Hill area last year.
