Late goal hurts Village
published: Monday | January 21, 2008

Richard Bryan, Freelance Writer

Reno 1

(Nicholy Findlayson 90th)

Village 0

Village looked like salvaging a point in time added on until Nicholy Findlayson muscled his way past two unsuspecting Village defenders and then shot into the back of the net to give Reno three points in the Cash Plus Premier League match at St. Elizabeth Technical yesterday.

On 22 points, Reno are resting nicely in the competitive mid-pack leaving Village firmly rooted at the bottom of the standings with three rounds of matches to complete the second phase of the league.

Village coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis was crestfallen, as only a few seconds before he was heard yelling his team to "stay behind the ball".

The truth is, the goal seemed destined as the play was ignited from the left side where substitute Troy Reid was providing all sorts of problems for the Village midfielders and defence.

A young dynamo, and playing with much the same style as the late national player Steve 'Shorty' Malcolm, Reid had entered the game in the 65th minute for Orane Warren. Unknown to most, except those who had witnessed his performance while scoring in a 4-0 rout of Boys' Town two days earlier in a national Under-21 league match at STETHS, he was a bundle of activity, running hard at the Village defence and tackling earnestly.
