THE EDITOR, Sir:
After listening to the interview with the Police Commissioner, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin on CVM TV at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2008; I concluded, that he is a no-nonsense commissioner.
I also observed, that he carried a mild smile, which at times was undergirded with a serious mood in replying to some of the questions. This, to my mind, is suggesting that he will not tolerate any interference from anyone (political or otherwise) with his administration.
Another cogent point that he emphasised were frequent consultations with his lieutenants and delegating of responsibilities. He also pledged to be fair and true to the men and women under his control and to the people of the nation.
Therefore, it is my opinion that he possesses the required knowledge and if afforded the wherewithal and cooperation from the citizens, he will tackle head-on the challenges now facing the country in corruption, crime and violence, gun trading, extortion etc.
Commissioner, I have this to say - "To thine own self be true and it must follow as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man".
I am, etc.,
